Before you start

Keep these points in mind before you start the route.

Payment

Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before arrival and carry a small amount of RMB as backup, especially for mountain areas.

Internet

Prepare an eSIM or international roaming for maps, translation, ride-hailing and ticketing.

Altitude

Shangri-La, Meili and Yubeng are high-altitude areas. Walk slowly, keep warm and avoid alcohol when you first arrive.

Tickets & Access

Reconfirm Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Pudacuo and Meili/Yubeng access rules close to travel; weather and policy can change.

Road Conditions

Mountain-road days can be long and weather dependent. Avoid tight same-day flight connections after Feilai or Yubeng.

Luggage

Use a small overnight or hiking bag for Yubeng and avoid dragging large suitcases into deep old-town lanes.
